FLINT GENERALS, A FORCE TO BE RECON WITH

The Flint Generals of the newly formed International Hockey League (IHL) will have a much different look when they take to the ice for the 2007-2008 International Hockey League season. Last season in the United Hockey League the Generals road at the middle of the pack with a record of thirty-three wins thirty four losses and nine overtime wins, this just below five hundred hockey team will become a thing of the past once the first IHL season starts in October. With the new rules that have been brought into effect for the 2007-08 season it has given the Generals the opportunity to sign some big players. Five out of the nine players already signed to the Generals roster are over six foot, those five players include Defensemen Kris Mallette 6’4, defensemen Ryan Jorde 6’3, defensemen Brett Westgarth 6’2, forward Mike Alexiou 6’2 and left winger Shawn Futers 6’1. With size like the Generals have you know you’re in for a tough team. Goaltending and Defense will be key in Flint this season, big strong defensemen with two goaltenders like Chad Alban and Eric Marvin not many teams are going to put big numbers on the board against the troops. Chad Alban in all eleven pro hockey season has never ended a season under 0.800 save percentage. Chad has also had a low GAA having less than 4.00 for every pro season. Eric Marvin a second year third year pro and a former member of the Flint Generals lead the Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League to a Championship in 2006-2007. The Last thing the Generals need is some scoring to top off this great roster. This years team is shaping up to be much better than last season, size and aggressiveness was a problem last season but from the size of most of the boys on this team that will not be a problem. The Flint Generals fans will finally get what they have been asking for year, a tough mean scoring machine that could take them to Championship. Old time hockey is back in Flint and is here to stay!
